COLUMBUS, OHIO, DECEMBER 28, 2012 – Classical 101, the only classical music radio station in Central Ohio, will add two new shows to its weekly Saturday evening lineup in 2013. Both programs will be locally produced and hosted, and add to an already diverse array of program offerings.

The American Sound“ hosted by Jennifer Hambrick will air Saturdays at 6 p.m. beginning January 5. This new show, named by a listener after a promotion ran on Classical 101, will showcase a variety of classical music with an American accent.

Each week, masterworks by great American composers past and present like Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein and Samuel Barber will be explored along with contemporaries Eric Whitacre, Michael Daugherty and John Adams. Listeners will enjoy a nod to our American roots with George Gershwin’s jazz-inspired music, performances by America’s bluegrass greats and more.

January 5 will also feature the launch of the weekly series “Fretworks“ at 7 p.m. with host John Rittmeyer. This hour-long program will be an audio delight for guitar lovers by looking at the classical guitar as a solo instrument, in concertos, and ensemble pieces. Music will range from recordings by great guitarists along with recent releases from young masters.
