WOSU public radio station 89.7 FM in Columbus has been named the best radio news operation in Ohio for the third straight year.

The Ohio Society of Professional Journalists announced their 2011 statewide awards and 89.7 FM captured first place awards in four of the seven radio categories, plus three first place radio reporting awards.

Aside from the station-wide award as Best News Operation, WOSU took home top awards for its www.wosu.org website; Best Anchor – Steve Brown; Best Editor – Sam Hendren; Best Reporter – Mandie Trimble and WOSU TV received the award for Best TV Public Affairs Show, Columbus On The Record, hosted by Mike Thompson and produced by Diana Bergemann.

Second place reporting awards were received by WOSU’s Marilyn Smith and Tom Borgerding.

“The awards reflect the talents of WOSU news reporters, the breadth of their work and WOSU Public Media’s commitment to local news coverage,” said Mike Thompson, WOSU News & Public Affairs Director.
