OH Commission To Hear False-Statements Claim Against Zoo Opponent
The Ohio Elections Commission is expected to hear a complaint filed against a Columbus Zoo levy opposition group. A panel made the recommendation Wednesday afternoon.
A state election commission panel found probable cause in a false-statements complaint filed by the Columbus Zoo against levy opponents.
Zoo Levy Committee Co-Chair John Kulewicz attended the hearing.
“For several weeks now, the Citizens for Responsible Taxation has been telling people that the Columbus Zoo is responsible for the plan to demolish Veterans Memorial and that the Columbus Zoo wants to put a new facility right on top of where Veterans Memorial is. And once again, nothing could be more from the truth.”
A spokesman for the opposition group said he did not attend the hearing.
But the current wording on the website says “the permanent property tax increase much of which will be used to build a third zoo facility on the site of the to-be-demolished Veterans Memorial.”
The full elections commission hearing is set for Monday, the day before the levy is up for vote.
The zoo also filed a similar complaint against Virginia-based Americans for Prosperity but it was rejected.
