Columbus Public Health Opens Mumps Vaccine Clinic
The city health department is now offering special clinics for the mumps vaccine.
As of Monday 111 cases of the mumps have been reported according to health officials.
At least 80 percent of those cases have been linked to an outbreak of the viral illness on the Ohio State campus.
“Mumps cases are on the rise in our community and anyone who has not received any doses or only one dose of MMR should get vaccinated as soon as possible,” said Columbus Public Health Commissioner Dr. Teresa Long.
In order for the mumps vaccine to be effective, two doses are necessary, health officials say.
The clinic is open Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to noon.
Columbus Public Health is providing the vaccines on a sliding fee scale.
No appointment is necessary.
