2012The City of Columbus has relaunched its plans to celebrate our city’s bicentennial in 2012. At a gathering yesterday at the beautiful Grange Audubon Park facility, Mayor Coleman joined with past Mayors to kickoff the planning. I serve among about 20 others in the community on the newly formed Bicentennial Organizing Committee with the goal of “developing and coordinating a robust and transformative commemoration of the city’s bicentennial” to build a community that is “more inspired, proud and engaged” in the vitality of Columbus. It’s a very exciting time, with projects already in the works that will transform the community — from the Scioto Mile riverfront makeover, the Columbus Commons park on the former City Center site to expansions at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the Columbus Museum of Art.

We are also proud that WOSU’s Columbus Neighborhoods documentary and web project was cited as one of the key initiatives already in progress to bring the city’s history and accomplishments to the community.

If you are interested in being more involved, go to the new Columbus 2012 website and volunteer or get on the mailing list. There is much to do and the committee is seeking your ideas!
