The Columbus Metropolitan Library serves 21 locations in Franklin County, and its operations center in Gahanna serves as a hub for the movement of all the materials that move through the system. We sneak behind the scenes after dark to find out just exactly how the books get onto the shelf.
Slow Turnout For First Day Of Early Voting
Turnout is usually slow on the first day of early voting, but the Franklin County Board of Elections was especially barren today, with just a few people trickling in during morning hours.
The Board’s Ben Piscatelli says part of part of the low turnout can likely be blamed on the rainy, chilly weather early in the day. Piscatelli says it could have also been confusion over the on-again, off-again changes to the election calendar.
“Ohio reverted to its original 35-day absentee voting schedule, thanks to a petition drive which has delayed any changes to 2012 at the earliest,” PIscatelli says.
Those changes would have shrunk Ohio’s early in-person and absentee voting period from 35 days to 21. If the Secretary of State certifies enough petition signatures, a referendum would go on the 2012 ballot, but would not impact early and absentee voting FOR that election.
This year’s early voting period runs through November 7, the day before election day.
