South of Lane has such a warm, welcoming, comfortable atmosphere that I feel like settling in with a cup of tea and a newspaper for the entire day, including breakfast and lunch, of course.

South of Lane Cafe and Vintage is located on Guilford Road near the Mallway in Old Arlington, the area “south of Lane Avenue,” hence the name. SOL, as it has become known, has been open since May 2013 and has become an Upper Arlington favorite for breakfast and lunch.

South of Lane is small, seating only 28, but you can almost always find a seat at the communal table near the open kitchen.  The eclectic decor features wood tables and floors, and lots of unique craft and decor items, selected by owner Catherine Vonderahe for purchase, which also enhance the setting.

We went for a late breakfast and early lunch.  Folks would stop in for a cup of coffee or tea, some were finishing breakfast, and others arrived for lunch.

I had one of the daily specials, bourbon-pecan French toast, garnished with bourbon-maple syrup sauce and garnished with a little banana and lots of pecans – outstanding! I ate every bite!  My wife enjoyed the daily special chicken-lemon soup and the popular Guilford grilled cheese with tomato and bacon.

The regular menu (breakfast items are available all day) includes: six signature omelets ($6 to $8.50 including toast); three waffles + French toast ($6 to $$8); three egg dishes ($5.50 to $8.50 including toast); veggie sandwiches, steel cut oats, yogurt parfait ($5.50 to $9); salads + ($8 to $11 for the flatbread); and soups ($6/$6.50 including bread).

South of Lane offers fresh, tasty, well prepared, locally sourced, made -to-order breakfast and lunch in a comfortable setting.
