Jerry Burgos has been cooking in and around Columbus for years. He worked with Ricky Barnes at the original Galaxy Cafe in Powell. Later, he started the Starliner Diner in Hilliard, which as spawned several imitators, which he eventually sold and moved on.

Now comes Jerry’s Galaxy Cafe on Scioto Darby Road in Hilliard, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner featuring full-flavored Cuban, Southwestern, Creole/Cajun, and Tex-Mex specialties in large portions at bargain prices – what a combination! The cafe is somewhat difficult to find. It doesn’t have signage yet, look for the eatery’s name on the front door.

Jerry’s has the same eclectic, funky decor as his previous spots, with bright yellow walls, crazy knick-knacks, and a brick wall with fireplace. Jerry’s seats 50, and does not yet have a liquor license.

heese with sausage, chicken, bacon, veg, and Cajun cream, served with Cuban bread….and the hand-cut sweet potato fries.

On a second visit, I had the special chicken & chorizo burrito, which even I couldn’t finish, and my buddy had the ham, mushroom, and cheddar omelet with superb roasted potatoes. The breakfasts are hearty and feature dishes such as huevos rancheros, chiliquiles, omelets, French toast, and pancakes.
