Flatiron Bar and Diner is one of my favorite places to eat downtown, with great food and reasonable prices, a pleasant pub setting, nice patio, and free parking downtown after 5 p.m., what’s not to like!

The Flatiron is located in the triangular Flatiron Building at the corner of Nationwide Blvd and N. Fourth. It has a friendly pub atmosphere with lots of wood. The bar always seems to be busy, and the bar menu includes a nice selection of draft and bottle beers, cocktails, and a small but interesting wine list.

The Flatiron is featuring a new menu while retaining most of its popular barbecue, Cajun, and Creole items. Everything here is made from scratch with emphasis on local ingredients, and they feature artisan breads from Eleni-Christina Bakery. Some of my favorites include the new signature burgers, crab and corn cake with spicy ancho chile mayo, house smoked salmon club sandwich, smoked pulled pork and brisket, plus the Flatiron gumbo and Creole jambalaya, among others.

The seven small plates ($8.95 – $9.95) include cornmeal fried oysters, a nice charcuterie plate, and house-made sausage and ribs with greens. The six soups and salads ($4.25 to $10.25 for entree salads) include three soups, gumbo and great chili, and four large salads with add-ons.

From the smoker, there are pulled pork, brisket, and ribs, sandwiches and platters ($8.95 – $14.75). The sandwiches ($6 to $11) include po’boys, muffuletta, burgers, and clubs, and there are half portions. Large plates ($12 – $15) range from from shrimp and grits to steak frites, and include half portions.

Flatiron Bar and Diner offers excellent food in large portions at fair prices….give it a try!
