EMMYS 3

The 50th Annual Ohio Valley Regional Emmy Awards took place in Columbus on Saturday night and not only was it a milestone year for the industry in our area, but WOSU Public Media was a big winner!

I had the pleasure of attending the event as the guest of Broad & High producer Jackie Shafer and by the end of the evening, I was sitting next to an Emmy winner! Broad & High took home the award in the Magazine Program category, while John Glenn: A Life of Service won the Emmy in the Historical Documentary category. It was such an honor to celebrate with the incredibly talented team behind the award-winning programming on WOSU TV.

Among the nominees were two other stellar WOSU TV productions including Columbus Neighborhoods: Southside and the Making of Columbus Neighborhoods. So keep in mind the next time you watch something that speaks to you on WOSU TV the team work and dedication that go into each production.

Perhaps Jackie put it best when asked how it felt to win an Emmy during Broad & High‘s first season,”It was rather emotional for me,” she said, “I have come to develop great working relationships with my colleagues and it was so meaningful to share this experience and excitement with them. I work with a great team and a great boss and I absolutely love coming in to work every day. I’m looking forward to an exciting Season Two of Broad & High!”

Check out the video below to catch our winners being interviewed backstage at the Emmys. Fast forward to 2:00:30 to see producers Ben Bays and Shawn Likley comment on their award for the John Glenn documentary and to 2:05:54 to watch the team behind Broad & High (including producer Jackie Shafer, executive producer Cindy Gaillard, host Audrey Hasson, videographers Andrew Ina and Ryan Schlagbaum, and freelancers Julie and Chris Hedrick) discuss their experience.
