“Thank you for Classical 101. It blesses my ears and saves my sanity. Just the greatest.”
That’s how Circleville’s Anne Renick put it recently as we talked about WOSU and our 24-hour, locally hosted, classical radio network. Anne is not alone in her praise.
The classical service has seen a steady growth in listeners since we signed on three years ago. In fact, listenership increased 35 percent in 2013 versus 2011. A good sign. More people are using the service through different devices – HD Radios, the new WOSU smartphone app, and certainly online, where we have listeners throughout the world.Â
We’re striving to improve the sound quality of Classical 101 and hope to replace the aged transmitter and antenna in the coming year. The Classical 101 network includes stations in Columbus, Marion, Mansfield, Coshocton and Portsmouth.
