High School Students from Worthington on National Show

COLUMBUS, OHIO, MAY 13, 2013 – “From the Top,” the nationally syndicated show on public radio, will feature performances by students from central Ohio on the Classical 101 broadcast Sunday, May 19 at 7 p.m.
“From the Top” is a weekly one-hour program that highlights five performances by young classical musicians and is taped before live audiences around the country. The May 19 show was originally taped at the Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts in New Albany on March 8 of this year.
Local students in the Classical 101 concert broadcast are Audrey Watkins, 17, (flute – Worthington); and The Mittelpunkt Duo of Michaella Cipriana, 17, (mezzo-soprano – Worthington) and Eva Kennedy, 18, (violist – Worthington).
Audrey studies flute with Lea Pearson and currently attends Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. She plays in her school band and has participated in a trio in the Chamber Music Connection. Audrey opens the show with the third movement from Poulenc’s “Flute Sonata.” “From the Top” host Christopher O’Riley accompanies her on piano.
The Mittelpunkt Duo is from the Chamber Music Connection in Worthington where they are coached by Deborah Price. Michaella and Eva perform Brahms’ “Geistliches Wiegenlied” (Sacred Lullaby) also with Christopher O’Riley on piano.
Violist Eva Kennedy felt that performing on “From the Top” was a rewarding experience: “Every new experience is valuable, playing in quartets with different people, playing in piano trios, playing with vocalists, playing solo music, playing in orchestras. Everything is important, and everything teaches you something new. So it was definitely great to have this experience.”
Classical 101, at 101.1 FM, is the only all-day classical music radio station in Central Ohio and is the hub of a five-station network of classical stations across Ohio. Listeners can also tune in to the classical music service at WOSU HD-2 on 89.7 FM and through the online stream at wosu.org.
