COLUMBUS, OHIO, NOVEMBER 29, 2012 – This is the time of year when many will be driving to the mall to purchase gifts or looking for ways to get inspired as they compile grocery lists to create seasonal gourmet fare. Now, WOSU Public Media has the perfect programming to get everyone into the holiday spirit. During the entire month of December the best reasons to celebrate are on WOSU TV, 89.7 NPR News and Classical 101.

Saturday afternoons from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., WOSU TV will feature culinary classics. With Lidia’s Italy in America, Martha Stewart’s Cooking School and Simply Ming, viewers can brush up on the basics. And at 2 p.m. on December 22, Heirloom Meals Christmas Special highlights a compilation of family stories and traditions all connected by cooking.

With twelve hours of children’s programming every day on WOSU TV, fan favorites for the younger viewer in December include Shalom Sesame, Chanukah: The Missing Menorah and Clifford’s Really Big Movie, which will air for the first time on WOSU TV.

Listeners dashing about doing errands or on their way home from work can bring the radio stations of WOSU Public Media along for the holiday ride. This year’s edition of Hanukkah Lights, hosted by NPR’s Susan Stamberg and Murray Horwitz, starts off the festivities on December 8.

Then, every weeknight at 7 p.m. from December 17 to December 24, holiday concerts can be heard on both 89.7 NPR News and Classical 101. Local performances of special interest include Handel’s Messiah from St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Columbus Jazz Orchestra’s Home for the Holidays and Columbus Symphony Orchestra’s Holiday Pops program.
